Generally, the enforcement effort will employ day time road safety checks at various locations throughout DeKalb County for the period Thursday, August 29, 1996 through Monday, September 2, 1996. In order to insure adequate personnel are available, members of the DeKalb Police STAR Team and Tactical Enforcement Unit will assist in conducting the road safety checks at locations by each of the city police departments.
Each primary road safety check within the various jurisdictions should be scheduled to last approximately two hours. This would allow for a total of twelve major safety checks for the four-day period. Scheduling will require cooperation between each participating agency as to date and time the STAR and TAC Units will be available. Each department is encouraged to conduct their own enforcement efforts in addition to the combined agencies safety check.
The impact of a county-wide, multi-jurisdictional effort should have a dramatic positive effect on the citizens of DeKalb County. The unique nature of the "Click It or Ticket" campaign should also capture the imagination of both television and print media in the metropolitan Atlanta area. The proper use of seat belts and child safety seats are critical to limiting injury, severity of injury, and fatalities in motor vehicle crashes. Each agency should remind officers of the value of this enforcement effort is to save lives and reduce injuries in our communities. Public education in conjunction with strict enforcement is the most effective method to increase safety belt and child seat use. This campaign should serve to promote our common goal of a safer DeKalb County.
